GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION

PLANNING TO ATTEND A CSHL COURSE:
Laboratory courses, both experimental and computional, are offered at our main campus while lecture-based discussion courses are offered at our Banbury campus. Courses are of short duration with small class sizes and high faculty:student ratios. Instructors for a given course design the detailed curriculum, write the laboratory and in-class exercises, invite seminar speakers, and lead discussions. The courses are very intensive and the hours are long but, we hope, highly rewarding. Selection for a course is often competitive and you are encouraged to complete the application process by the posted deadline (see How To Apply and Selection Process and Stipends for more information).
Acceptance/Rejection:
You will be advised by e-mail approximately six weeks prior to the start of a course whether your application has been accepted. If it has, you then have several days to accept the offer to participate in the course. We understand that your acceptance is sometimes conditional on the amount of financial aid provided to you.
Course fees: Tuition packages are all-inclusive and cover your reagents and supplies, food, on-campus housing, parking, a wine-and-cheese party, and a lobster banquet at the end of the course. Students are housed in double-occupancy rooms on campus while faculty are housed in single-occupancy rooms. We do not offer a per-diem rate.
Financial Aid: See Selection Process and Stipends
Payments: Payment in full (less any financial support awarded) is required four weeks prior to the start of a course. Please do NOT send payment until you are officially accepted into a course. If you have difficulties arranging payment, contact the Course Registrar without fail: your place in the course may be at risk if payment is not received on time. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. If you wish to pay by academic or personal check, payment is due immediately upon acceptance into the course. Checks should be made payable to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and mailed to One Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724; please include your name and the title of the course on your check. We also accept wire transfers as payment, but please notify us in advance if you wish to utlize this option. If paying by two different means, you will need to use the payment authorization form found here.
Cancellation: Cancellations less than four weeks prior to the start of a course incur a $150 cancellation charge. No-shows are ineligible for any refunds except in extenuating circumstances. If you must cancel or if someone else will take your slot in a course, please notify us so we can inform the course instructors.
Receipts: A receipt will be included in each registration packet.
Additional Nights, Family, Etc: If your visit includes extra nights, please notify us immediately so we can make the necessary arrangements. Note that there is an additional fee of $220/day to cover room and board for any days you stay beyond the duration of a course. Because of the very long hours in CSHL courses, students are discouraged from bringing family. Faculty with families should check with the Course Registrar about housing availability for family members.
Check-In/Check-Out Times: Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. Check-out is 1:00 p.m.
